Relocation of the Jurong East Bus Interchange until 2027 – Things to Know
Jurong East Bus Interchange has been the significant bus terminal of Jurong, Singapore for many years. This open-air bus terminal is now being relocated to a new location. People who used the Jurong East MRT station alongside Jurong East Bus Interchange found it convenient until now. However, Jurong East Interchange is being relocated only to the opposite side till 2027. Yes, you heard it right! It will be relocated till 2027 to support the construction at the original place.
The relocation of Jurong East Bus Interchange has been done to support the Jurong Regional Line’s construction & the Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub. The Jurong Regional Line is expected to be functional in 2026. This line will be 24 KM long & have 24 ground stations. This line is going to operate in 2026 in three phases & it will be operating in some main areas of west Singapore like Jurong East, Choa Chu Kang, Boon Lay, etc. The first phase of the Jurong Regional Line will start in 2026, the second will start in 2027, and the third in 2028.
The information about the relocation of the Jurong East Bus Interchange was informed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in a press conference on the 11th of November. The relocation of Jurong East Interchange will be effective from 6th of December. The new sheltered temporary bus station is just beside JCube. The new bus terminal is exactly opposite the JEM Mall & also constitutes a stopping point close to the Jurong East MRT Station. The government has also constructed a new overhead sheltered bridge across Jurong Gateway Road which is the main passage between Jurong East MRT Station & the bus interchange. The overbridge is also equipped with escalators & elevators to facilitate the passengers.
Bus stops located near Blk 131 & before Jurong East MRT Station have also been expanded to maximum capacity to accommodate more passengers. The LTA also informed that the new bus terminal’s boarding area is more spacious compared to the Jurong East Bus Interchange. The information about the new bus services changes due to the relocation of Jurong East Bus Interchange will also be displayed on the bus terminals, LTA online platforms, etc.
The new bus terminal is also embedded with a bus berth availability system that will notify bus drivers upon bus berth availability. High-volume fans have been installed at the new bus terminal to provide better air circulation. It also consists of 64 bicycle stands along with four barrier-free alighting areas. The LTA also informed that more facilities for public transport staff members would be introduced in the new bus station like air-conditioned canteen, staff toilets & lounge, etc. The new bus terminal also consists of a nursing home.
LTA informed that the adjustments had been made in routes & timings to allow faster travel and to minimise congestion on bus terminals. The bus operators do have to adhere to the state guidelines against the COVID scenario. Singapore is looking to revive its transportation & tourism sector post-COVID & Jurong Bus Interchange was one of the main bus terminals in Singapore.
